Hope Lutheran Church - Our Home

As a congregation committed to care for creation, we affirm God’s creation in all its glory and beauty. We acknowledge God as the source of all things. We acknowledge Christ as the redeemer of all things. We acknowledge the Spirit as the sustainer of all things. As a result, we strive to respect all of life as sacred. We accept our vocation as Earth-keepers who care for creation. We accept our responsibility to live justly in relation to our fellow human beings in ways that all creatures may mutually thrive together.
Because we desire to leave Earth a better place for our children, we will promote love and respect for creation among our youth, teach them responsible Earth practices, and engage them in projects that restore creation. We will pursue this mission in a grace-filled manner, seeking to find hope and joy in the commitments and sacrifices these provisions may entail and in the restorations they engender.
We seek to let our care for creation be known to others.

AS many Christians believe that YOU must be born again in the spirit to become a Christian, We believe YOU must be born again, in YOUR outlook on life to care for creation.  YOU must have a mindset that always is concerned about what can YOU do in everyday life; from the time YOU turn on the first electric light or appliance, to, how long do YOU really need to shower, to how much single use plastic was used for YOUR breakfast, to, did YOU really need to put out that much food, only to throw 1/4 of it away, to, what kind of vehicle do YOU need to get to work today, fossil fuel powered or muscle powered.  And on and on constantly making the creation saving choices until they become second nature to YOU.

Our governments aren’t going to save creation nor are any of our other organizations,  They have unsuccessfully tried, off again and on again, for the last 50 years.  Only YOU can do it.  When enough “YOUS” believe and live as if God’s creation needs saving then governments, organizations and the world will change.

YOU are a concerned, good person.   But being good isn’t enough.
YOU must be good for something or YOU'RE good for nothing.
Make caring for creation the something that YOU become good at.

Our Goal

Picture

Even when there seems to be no reason for hope, we are obliged to go on and act as if there is hope. This is the return we must make for the gift of our lives. Even if no one else  acts in a positive way, we are obliged to act in a positive way, to work for the better. This won’t do much good in the world if we’re the only ones, but by our example we may lead others to follow. And even if we are the only ones, it will do this good: We will know that we haven’t given up, and that we are doing our best to save tomorrow, to see that tree grow and bear fruit.

Last year, Hope Lutheran signed a "Covenant of Creation Care” document in response to the ELCA’s call to care for God’s creation here on Earth.  Soon after, HLC formed our Creation Care Team (CCT).  The final element of the five: “Our Public Ministry” implores us to “listen to the cry of the Earth.”  read more...
